Last night my 2 year old decided that he wanted to dig through one of our boxes of old photos.  Nothing makes me happier than when he wants to look at photos. Of course the main reason is that it is something we can both do and enjoy at the same time, lets face it I can only put the Elmo puzzle together so many times. Equally important though is this proves to me that photography, and printed images do still hold value in today’s digital world.  At two years old, he has never once asked to look at pictures on the computer, or ipad, but he has consistently asked to look at printed pictures.

As I was cleaning up the carnage that follows letting a 2 year old loose in a box of 4×6 photos, I ran across this picture and I realized, this is the last photo I ever took with a film camera. This revelation made me happy and sad at the same time. There was something so satisfying about getting that delivery of your printed images and the little package of negatives that came along with it. Pictures were more permanent then. But then there are picture boxes, which we have scattered throughout the house gathering dust.  In a way I am glad to see those go, but then I think about the time I get to spend digging through them and uncovering these little treasures with my son.  I think I will have to hang onto the boxes and keep printing pictures.

Enjoy
